Catching Dark-bellied Brent Geese

Catching Dark-bellied Brent Geese on the island of Terschelling on 11 May 1999. The canon-net was fired with a good tail-wind, while the geese take off upwind. This means that even more than the 50 birds which are visible in this series were caught, because they flew under the net before the net started to fall down. The total catch was 74 adult birds, and only 1 first-winter bird (thus born in 1998), which is a good reflection of the poor breeding success in the summer of 1998. Gerard Müskens took the pictures.

Eight out of the 40 adult males, we caught, were fitted with satellite transmitters.
